Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite considers longer stay at PSV Eindhoven

Everton loanee Jarrad Branthwaite has discussed his future at Goodison Park after hitting a good run of form during his temporary spell with PSV Eindhoven.

The 20-year-old centre-back has enjoyed a fruitful and impressive spell while on loan at PSV Eindhoven, learning his trade under the tutelage of Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy in the Dutch Eredivisie.

According to VI [15 October], the 20-year-old has worked his way up to become the undisputed first-choice starter at the club and is admired by manager Ruud van Nistelrooy who recently hailed him as a “complete” defender.

The Dutch outfit are reportedly willing to make his loan move permanent this summer, but the Toffees are not looking to make a decision any time soon and will instead wait until the season is over to consult with the player before making the next move [Dean Jones, 12 February].

However, the defender has poured cold water on his Goodison Park future stating he would like to extend his stay at PSV but acknowledges that the club could have first-team plans for him in the future.

Speaking to Voetbal International [15 February], he said: “I am really enjoying myself here, so I would definitely consider a longer stay at PSV.

“We’ll see if it works out, my contract at Everton still runs until 2025. That is still a long time and they will undoubtedly have a plan with me as well.

“But I’m not focusing on it. I’m at PSV now, I want to perform as well as I can and keep developing. We’ll see what happens, it’s something for later this season and not for now.”

Huge prospect

The 20-year-old has indeed undergone a steady and impressive development at PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutch outfit is one of the best clubs in Europe for developing young talents, and it seemed a brilliant business for all parties when he joined on loan last summer.

Branthwaite has swiftly morphed into one of Europe’s most coveted centre-backs already with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and AS Roma wanting to scout him right now, and it’s totally warranted considering he’s a very agile, composed and uniquely gifted left-footed centre-back.

For that fact, the 20-year-old is a must-keep for the Toffees, especially with the club preparing for another rebuild under Sean Dyche next summer.

The player could well form a great partnership with either Conor Coady or James Tarkowski in the near future, but also more importantly, develop even further alongside them.

Branthwaite is a huge prospect for the future and that future must be at Goodison Park.
