Everton player ratings v Leeds United: Seamus Coleman stars, Vitaliy Mykolenko disappoints

Everton made it two home wins from as many games under Sean Dyche as they beat Leeds United 1-0 on Saturday, 18 February.

Seamus Coleman’s goal in the second half was the difference maker for the two sides with Illan Meslier at fault for allowing it to go in from that angle.

The Toffees are now out of the relegation zone while Leeds slip into it as they’re still looking for a new manager.

Here are our player ratings from the game:

Jordan Pickford – 5

Didn’t have to make any saves in the game as Leeds failed to even have a single shot on target. His defensive in front of him deserves all the credit in the world.

Seamus Coleman – 8

An absolutely sensational goal from the captain who rolled back the years in this game. His last goal for the club was against Leeds last season but this one will certainly mean more. We do not know whether he saw Illan Meslier being off his line, but that was a tremendous strike from the angle.

Conor Coady – 5

Had a decent game but nothing too spectacular about his performance. There were a few nervy moments when he gave the ball away but it’s good to see that playing with James Tarkowski gives him more confidence than he normally does as he’s more accustomed to playing in a back three.

James Tarkowski – 8

Another outstanding game from Tarkowski. Had a glorious chance to score from a corner in the first half but it was very well saved by Meslier. Did very well to keep the Leeds attackers at bay and has not had a bad game under Dyche.

Vitalii Mykolenko – 4

The 23-year-old was a tad wayward with his passing and his output in the final third was non existent – much to the disappointment of the manager. He misplaced all of his attempted long balls and just completed one cross all game even though Neal Maupay was finding space in the penalty area.

Everton

Alex Iwobi – 7

Has been a manager’s dream this season and is continuing his rich vein of form under Dyche as well. Playing on the right flank, Iwobi constantly got involved in the buildup and was often leading the press and counter press whenever his side lost the ball. Was solid with and without the ball.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6

Played very well in his sort of box-to-box role as he had key contributions in the defensive as well as offensive thirds for Everton. He was also tidy with his passing, registering an accuracy that was over 85 per cent and didn’t give the Leeds midfielders a chance to counter attack with speed.

Idrissa Gueye – 6

Did his bit in midfield and did not let Leeds have too much freedom to attack from the middle. He forced them out wide on numerous occasions and was tidy with his ball-winning actions.

Amadou Onana – 5

Not the best of games from Onana, given the high standards he’s set with his performances for Everton this season. He lost five out of his seven attempted ground duels and also lost possession on 10 occasions. Was deservedly brought off in the second half.

Everton

Dwight McNeil – 5

It seems like his job in this side is to cross the ball whenever he’s got it as he attempted over 15 all game. However, his accuracy was off it as he just managed to complete three. He is getting into the right positions and that will be encouraging for Dyche.

Neal Maupay – 6

Had a good game. Ran the channels well and took shots whenever he could. It was always going to be difficult to create too many clear cut chances for him but he did well enough with however the team set up and Dyche is expected to start him for the next Everton game.
