Rafa Benitez speaks out after Everton v Liverpool with Premier League prediction

Former Everton manager Rafael Benitez has spoken out on the “bitter” feeling between Liverpool and the Blues after the Merseyside derby.

Benitez shared that he thinks the rest of the season will be interesting for both Everton and Liverpool as both teams struggle to make an impact in the Premier League.

Speaking in the Daily Mail pg 112 (18 February), Benitez claims that he wanted the Toffees to stay up in the Premier League following his sacking last season.

“When I left I wanted them to stay up,” said Benitez as quoted by the Daily Mail pg 112 (18 February). “I wasn’t thinking, if they are relegated, I will be happy – no way.

“I have a lot of friends, they are proper Evertonians. Why would I want them to go down? The derby is incredible, with a proper atmosphere.

“The rivalry is amazing, when it is nice. Sometimes it can be a little bitter. But if it is nice, it is good for the city. Football is like that. The good thing is that there will be an interesting rest of the season for both clubs because they have to achieve what they need to.”

Deary me.

Benitez just doesn’t get the picture, does he? Evertonians will never be fans of the Spaniard no matter how hard he claims to be one of them.

It’s highly doubtful that Benitez would care if Everton were relegated to the Championship and it’s clear which team his loyalties lie within the city.

Farhad Moshiri even appointing Benitez last season was bizarre in itself and it just showed how out of touch the club’s leaders are with the fan base.

Hopefully, an appointment like that never happens again, it did no one any favours and Benitez was a doomed man before things had even begun.

With the Spaniard still out of football, it will be interesting to see if any Premier League teams take a punt on him anytime soon.

One thing is for certain, he won’t be coming back to Goodison Park anytime soon and Evertonians will be happy about that.
