Everton shareholder hails Duncan Ferguson spirit as Sean Dyche leads win over Leeds United
Everton showed “the heart and guts and spirit” of Duncan Ferguson as they beat Leeds United in a “terrific” result, according to Mike Parry.
The Toffees were the better side at Goodison Park on Saturday (18 February) but it took a wild Seamus Coleman goal from an unlikely position out wide to break the deadlock and secure the points.
The 1-0 win lifts Everton out of the relegation zone while striking a major blow to their opponents, and club shareholder Parry didn’t hold back with praise for manager Sean Dyche.
Posting on his personal Twitter account after the win Parry wrote alongside a photo of a celebrating Ferguson in his Toffees playing days: “A terrific result today for the mighty Everton .. It had all the heart and guts and spirit of this man ..
“Sean Dyche is exactly what our club needs right now .. For 40 days and nights we were in the wilderness .. But we are no more .. MAGIC.”
Revival
Big Dunc might be the manager at Forest Green Rovers now, having been overlooked for the top job at Goodison Park on multiple occasions.
But the man who has been given that role has already made a major difference since his arrival in thoroughly testing circumstances.
Dyche came in with only a few days of the January transfer window left, and subsequently saw the club fail to provide him with any reinforcements.

There is a long way to go still, and the defeat at Liverpool was poor, but in two home games the former Burnley man has set his side up in a way that has dominated high-flying Arsenal and struggling Leeds in equal measure.
If he had the attacking firepower fans have been crying out for then the results may have been more comfortable, but two wins in three is something that seemed beyond Frank Lampard’s final months in charge.
If Dyche can harness the Ferguson spirit and the Goodison Park crowd then there is every reason to think he can secure Premier League survival against the odds, as his predecessor did.
It has been an encouraging start, and while Parry may have overreacted slightly, if the rest of the home games follow a similar pattern then confidence in this side will return.
