Everton: Seamus Coleman pivotal for team as they fight for their life

Everton right-back Seamus Coleman continues to be pivotal for his team as the club “fights for its life” in the Premier League, according to the Daily Mail.

Coleman grabbed a sensational winner against Leeds United on 18 February, yet again highlighting his importance to Sean Dyche’s side.

The report claims that in reality, upcoming and younger right-backs like Nathan Patterson and Ben Godfrey can’t yet do what Coleman does.

“As Everton’s captain spoke with typical honesty, he was tapped on the shoulder by Nathan Paterson, who was heading home. Walking in the opposite direction at the same time was Ben Godfrey, who had just completed a taxing warm-down. Leaning against a wall, watching on, was Mason Holgate,” as quoted by the Daily Mail. (20 February)

“Paterson, who is working his way back from an ankle injury, Godfrey and Holgate could all be Everton’s right-back in the future but the reality right now is that none can do what Coleman does for a team that continues to fight for its life.

“But what made this little episode all the more remarkable was the idea that Paterson, Godfrey and Holgate were all schoolboys in 2009 when Coleman was plucked from Sligo Rovers by David Moyes for £60,000 to begin his Everton career.”

Some bloke.

The shift Coleman continues to put into this Everton side is phenomenal and he always seems to be right back at it just as fans are writing him off.

He’s a class act on and off the pitch and without him, the Blues wouldn’t have gotten the much-needed three points on Saturday afternoon against Leeds.

It’s clear that the Blues are still struggling in front of goal and sometimes it takes a bit of magic to get through these woes and games unscathed.

Coleman provided a sensational finish just as it seemed the Toffees wouldn’t be able to score yet again on a day of frantic but poor football.

There is no doubt the return of Patterson will likely provide Dyche with some food to think over who he will start at right-back in upcoming fixtures.

And whilst many fans would opt for the youngster, it’s hard to deny that Coleman fully deserves to keep his spot in the starting XI after recent games.
