Sky Sports pundit believes Seamus Coleman lied about Everton goal v Leeds United
Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent has called out Everton defender Seamus Coleman for lying about his goal against Leeds United over the weekend.
The Toffees won the game courtesy of Coleman’s strike as he found the back of the net from an unconventional angle with Illan Meslier way off his line.
This led to a debate as to whether or not the right-back actually meant it, but then he went on air to confirm that it was actually intentional.
Speaking to Bent on talkSPORT, Andy Goldstein said, “He said afterwards, ‘Hopefully, the cameras can see my eyes looking at the goal’.”
To which Bent responded, “I don’t believe him. You’re lying.”
He was then asked, “Are you calling Seamus Coleman a liar?” and he replied, “In that scenario, yes I am.”
Baffling
Just because Bent never scored a goal like that during his playing career, he wants everyone to think that this one was a fluke from Coleman.
We’ve watched enough of the Toffees captain to know that he’s not that bad a crosser and if he wanted to play in a ball, it wouldn’t have been struck that hard and would also have some curve on it.

That’s because there weren’t more than two Everton players who could realistically reach in time to get on the end of that cross.
He’s clearly seen Meslier’s position, which was awful and took a chance and it’s paid off as he’s executed it to near perfection.
Bent’s job as an ex-pro is to analyse situations and give his expertise on things, not call out players for being liars without being in their shoes.
Surely, Coleman’s not going to lose sleep over it and in the grand scheme of things, this could be the most important goal of the season for Everton.
