Udinese could sell Beto in July after Everton’s failed £31m January bid – Fabrizio Romano

Serie A side Udinese feel they could sell striker Beto in July after Everton’s failed £31m last-ditch January move, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old Portuguese forward was one of numerous targets that the Toffees missed out on in the winter transfer window, despite doing “everything they could” to sign him.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported live on Sky Sports News on deadline day (31 January, 5:15pm) that the club had made a bid of €35million [£31million] but it was unsuccessful.

And Romano took to his personal Twitter account, to reveal the words of Udinese director Pierpaolo Marino who confirmed that the club owners “turned down an important, huge bid” for the striker.

He then tweeted: “The bid was from Everton in the final days of the window.

“Udinese feel they could sell Beto in July.”

Unproven quality

It’s uncertain whether new Everton boss Sean Dyche will revisit the deal, despite the club desperately needing some attacking refreshment this summer, even if they are relegated from the Premier League.

Beto is an unproven quality, not just potentially in the Premier League but at the top European level which makes any kind of move for him a huge risk if the Toffees revisit it this summer.

Everton

£31m is a lot of money, and who knows, the Italian outfit could well increase that offer if the Portuguese hitman enjoys a stellar second half of the campaign.

For a striker who struggles to score goals at a regular rate, that is now what the club will need in the future. There are certainly better options out there, even options closer to home that can provide the attacking spark Goodison Park desperately desires.
