Everton officials thrilled as Jordan Pickford makes decision on Goodison Park contract – Paul Joyce

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is close to agreeing a new deal at the club, according to journalist Paul Joyce of The Times.

The Toffees have been in negotiation with the England number one for over a few months, but the club officials are buoyed by the prospect of retaining him at the club.

There has been significant progress in negotiations over a new deal, and Pickford is willing to commit his future at Goodison Park despite the club’s precarious situation.

The 28-year-old has been arguably one of the most consistent players for the club in the past 18 months or so, and he deserves a new deal.

He has been playing on top of his game, and he was one of the main reasons why the club managed to stay in the Premier League last season.

It is highly likely that other clubs in the Premier League could make an attempt to lure him away from Goodison Park, especially if the Toffees go down, but the new contract would mean the club would be in a strong position to command a high transfer fee for him.

But, let’s talk about the positive side. Pickford is a world-class goalkeeper, and Sean Dyche will be looking to keep him as long as possible as he is set for a massive rebuilding job in the summer.

Despite Everton’s poor form, they have been pretty solid at the back, and a lot of credit goes to Pickford for bailing the team out on several occasions.

The focus now is to avoid relegation and Pickford will have to play a big role in it once again. But the news will surely excite the fan base.
