New Everton contract for Jordan Pickford at the final stages – Fabrizio Romano
Everton are closing in on an agreement to extend Jordan Pickford’s contract at Goodison Park, with the deal involving clauses at the final stages, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Reports in the Liverpool Echo on 22 February suggested the England international was close to signing a new deal, with the finer details now being sorted and barring any late hitches.
Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett also confirmed yesterday [22 February] that the paperwork for a new deal for the 28-year-old was set to be signed within the next week.
Now, Romano, taking to his personal Twitter account [23 February] has reported the latest developments in the ongoing Pickford contract situation, revealing that the deal is “imminent”, wi certain clauses expected to be involved in the deal.
He tweeted: “Everton are closing in on an agreement to extend Jordan Pickford contract, deal at final stages with the English GK — it’s imminent.
“Pickford, keen on signing new long-term deal with clauses — final green light in the next days, as journalist Paul Joyce called.”
Loyalty
Considering all the unrest and uncertainty surrounding the whole club right now, coupled with their torrid position in the Premier League currently, Pickford could well have been forgiven for jumping ship for a much bigger club.
However, that isn’t the case according to latest developments and the England international is showing tremendous loyalty to the Everton cause, which comes as great news to the whole club and new manager Sean Dyche.

The England international has been a long-time servant at Goodison Park, establishing himself as one of the league’s best goalkeepers in a team that has struggled for a long while.
However, these developments will mean nothing if the Toffees suffer relegation come May, and those “clauses” Romano mentions in his tweet will certainly be involving the dreaded drop, and whether he would be allowed to leave if that seems the case at the end of the season.
What’s more important, however, is that Pickford sees his long-term career at Goodison Park and that will be pleasing enough for Dyche has he seeks to transform the club’s fortunes on the pitch.
