Sean Dyche speaks out on Everton contract talks with Jordan Pickford from Finch Farm

Sean Dyche believes Jordan Pickford’s commitment to Everton is a sign he’s “enjoying the new regime”, with the goalkeeper set to sign an extended contract at Goodison Park imminently.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday (23 February) that the Toffees shot-stopper was in the final stages of talks with the club over an extended contract, with the final green light set to be given in the coming days.

Speaking to the media live from Finch Farm on Thursday, and as shared via Football Daily, Dyche revealed Pickford had accepted the terms the club were proposing, and he was thrilled to continue working with him in the future.

He said: “He’s a very, very good player, we know that. A good servant to this football club, so far as well, and he’s going to continue to be that, I’m sure.

“I think it’s a sign he’s enjoying our new regime. I think he’s accepted of what we are willing to offer, and I know he’s been a fantastic player, so we want him to continue doing that.

“Any way we can rub off on him and help him to continue his development will be great if he feels there is stuff, and I think there is.”

Dyche effect

It is no coincidence that Pickford’s continued dedication to Everton has come after the arrival of Dyche at Goodison Park. The new manager has instilled a feel-good factor in Merseyside once more following a start of two wins from three games in the Premier League.

According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce (Thursday 23 February), Pickford’s contract isn’t set to include any relegation clauses in it – a huge sign of faith from England’s No.1.

The 28-year-old clearly believes in the project under Dyche and that the club can successfully navigate away from the clutches of relegation this season.

If the Toffees are going to do so successfully, Pickford will likely play a huge role. His heroics last campaign – alongside Richarlison – played a significant role in scraping past the drop with former manager Frank Lampard.

Pickford will receive a rapturous reception from the Goodison Park faithful this weekend when the club host Aston Villa if his contract is formally announced.
