Simon Jordan blasts Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davies as he rages over Everton in column

Simon Jordan has blasted Everton duo Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davies for being “fashion police”, and not doing enough on the pitch.

Writing for the Daily Mail (page 71, 23 February), Jordan shares that “something in the water” and has branded the duo as culprits. Dele Alli, who is currently on loan in Turkey, has also been criticized for his dressing sense.

Calvert-Lewin is the first-choice striker at the club but he has suffered badly from injuries this season. Likewise, Davies has underperformed as well.

“What is going on with Everton and the fashion police? You had Dele Alli rocking up at Goodison to be introduced to the crowd looking like an extra from Pirates of the Caribbean, with his jeans halfway down his backside,” wrote Jordan.

“Then you’ve got Dominic Calvert-Lewin (pictured) on the front page of magazines wearing a skirt and carrying a handbag. as far as centre forwards go, I imagine Sean Dyche has in his mind’s eye a striker like Bob Latchford, but the reality is he’s got one more akin to Sam Smith.

“Tom Davies is the next culprit, adorned in dressing gowns and Alice bands. there must be something in the water at Everton — let’s hope it’s not relegation.”

Relegation

To be honest, this is an over-the-top reaction. A player can do whatever he wants off the pitch as long as it doesn’t affect his performance.

Unfortunately, Calvert-Lewin is getting a lot of criticism because he has struggled with injuries and has failed to maintain the high standards he has set for himself.

Therefore, whatever he does off the pitch gets highlighted more and is being used as a tool to criticize him. That’s unfair. Having said that, Sean Dyche needs Calvert-Lewin more than ever to help the side avoid relegation.

Everton

The Toffees are out of the relegation zone at the moment, but they are only one point above the drop zone. A win against Aston Villa will probably give them breathing space this weekend, but they have some tough games coming up.

Davies may get an opportunity to start against Villa if Amadou Onana fails to recover. The homegrown midfielder has also struggled with injuries and he is facing an uncertain future as well, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
