Sky Sports pundit can’t rule out big-money Jordan Pickford sale in the summer with Premier League sides looking for a keeper

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Jordan Pickford could be sold in the summer if Everton decide they need to cash in on saleable assets in order to strengthen the squad, says Kevin Campbell.

The Toffees keeper’s new contract has finally been confirmed following months of delays with his deal now running to 2027, but has been the subject of transfer attention from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham [Daily Mail, 27 December].

And based off the previous two transfer windows that saw Richarlison and Anthony Gordon respectively sold for big money, Sky Sports pundit Campbell is aware that it is impossible to entirely discount a high-profile exit if Sean Dyche needs room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News about the keeper’s longer-term future he said: “The manager might think to himself, ‘Because I don’t have a lot of money I’ve got to look at saleable assets, and I’ve got to move and shake’.

“Jordan Pickford can bring in quite a bit of money, they could start fattening the squad out and bringing in players. That’s going to make then more competitive.

“It’s a conversation the club are going to have to have with Jordan Pickford, but I don’t rule it out.

“I definitely don’t rule it out at the end of the season, no.”

Richarlison and Gordon brought in more than £100million in total at a time when Everton transfer spending has been heavily curtailed, so Campbell is right that you can never say never.

The Brazilian was never adequately replaced following his exit to Spurs and Frank Lampard will no doubt believe that is a big part of what lost him his job, while the academy product wide man followed him out of the club to Newcastle in January despite the club fighting to keep him from Chelsea just five months earlier.

Pickford has indicated his intention to stay and keep the club in the Premier League, but from a club point of view the new deal also serves the purpose of protecting their investment and bumping up his asking price ahead of a summer where three top flight giants may be in the market for a keeper.
