Everton midfielder Amadou Onana sends injury boost with rallying message on social media
Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has silenced fears that he will be sidelined for the upcoming match against Aston Villa on Saturday (25 February) with an Instagram post captioned “ready for war”.
Ben Dinnery shared earlier this week (23 February) that the Belgian international has an “ongoing knee problem” after he limped off in the second half of the 1-0 win against Leeds at Goodison Park.
Toffees manager Sean Dyche confirmed after the match that his star midfielder had picked up a “knee issue” but that it was manageable [Liverpool Echo, 19 February], and Onana has now hushed some lingering worries that he wouldn’t be fit to feature against Unai Emery’s Villa side.

Taking to his personal Instagram account (Friday 24 February), the 21-year-old shared a picture of him in his training kit accompanied by the caption “ready for war”.

Brilliant news
Onana has been superb since the arrival of Dyche at Everton last month, and his form could play a huge role in deciding Everton’s Premier League status at the end of the season.
After moving from Lille for a pricey-looking £33million, Onana has started to repay the club’s faith with a string of strong performances in the middle of the park. The Belgian’s aggression in the tackle is certainly a useful trait, but his ability to make smart decisions while in possession of the football could arguably be seen as a greater tool.
In the 1-0 win against league-leaders Arsenal, the Belgian International covered every blade of grass within Goodison Park and Dyche will hope his ongoing knee issue won’t affect him against Aston Villa.
The Toffees must look to use their size and physicality to bully Villa’ somewhat small-looking midfield on Saturday (25 February), and Onana, alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure, can lead this charge.
