Dominic Calvert-Lewin ruled out of Everton Premier League clash v Arsenal

Dominic Calvert-Lewin will not be fit enough to return for the Premier League clash with Arsenal after missing the Everton defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Toffees were beaten 2-0 at Goodison Park despite being the better team for a large part of the game, with their lack of genuine threat up front coming back to bite them once again.

But after the game boss Sean Dyche revealed that the issue is set to continue for the midweek clash with Arsenal, as Calvert-Lewin is unlikely to be fit to return.

When asked about if he’d be available, journalist Richard Buxton quoted Dyche on his personal Twitter account (25 February) as saying, “I doubt it.”

Ugh

It’s the same old story for Calvert-Lewin and the club’s negligence to not sign a striker or any sort of attacker in January is truly biting back now.

Calvert-Lewin at his best is one of the most dangerous and fearsome strikers in the Premier League, but when was the last time he was that player?

Everton

He missed the vast majority of last season through injury, and this season he’s looked like a shadow of his former self when he’s been able to play.

Since Dyche took over he has managed an hour of football, coming off against Arsenal after we took the lead and not being seen since.

His body just isn’t built to last at the highest level, and while he has lots of ability if he’s always unavailable then it means absolutely nothing. Everton need to find a way to move on from him in the summer, but first they must survive and stay in the Premier League.
