Everton could spark Jordan Pickford transfer bidding war in event of relegation

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford could reportedly leave the club if they get relegated from the Premier League this season.

According to Give Me Sport journalist Dean Jones, he appears to be loyal to the Toffees with Sean Dyche now at the helm.

However, all bets could be off if they finish 18th or lower as there’s unlikely to be a shortage of suitors.

Jones said, “Yeah, I think it’s a really big boost. I mean, obviously, if they went down, I would still have an expectation he would leave, but to be honest, even when there have been links to other clubs, there’s been no inclination that he wasn’t still committed to Everton.

“He seems very loyal and now, and with Dyche in at the club, I’m probably leaning towards the fact that Pickford will stay.”

It’s understood that there is no relegation clause in his contract which means that the Toffees will still have the final word.

Surely, they will comply with the player’s demands if he asks to leave but will be compensated decently for his sale.

It will also not be a fixed price so if there are multiple clubs keen on signing him then obviously they can spark a bidding war as well.

Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United have all been linked with the England number one and will surely be interested if Everton get relegated. [The Metro]

However, nobody at Goodison Park will be thinking of all this as the focus still is very much on the league and avoiding relegation.

They find themselves in the bottom three and Dyche knows that there’s plenty of work still to be done and he’s got to make do with his current crop of players as no new signings were made in January.
