Everton could look to cash in on Dominic Calver-Lewin this summer as Newcastle United transfer links emerge

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing up a shock summer move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the Toffees could well be tempted to sell.

The injury-prone England star has only played 62 minutes under Sean Dyche since he joined the ranks at Goodison Park, missing the Toffees’ defeats against Liverpool, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

The Blues have suffered in front of goal as a result currently possessing the worst goalscoring record in the Premier League this season with just 17 goals so far.

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes [1 March], Newcastle are thinking about a shock move for Calvert-Lewin this summer, considering his injury history and the fact that they would be signing him from a top-flight rival.

They feel that the forward line is an area that needs strengthening, as the Magpies have been relatively goal-shy in recent matches, and see the England international as the ideal solution.

The Toffees have already sold Richarlison and Anthony Gordon this season and yet failed to add to Dyche’s squad upon his appointment at the end of January, with the club desperately in need of attacking reinforcements.

Dyche has had to call upon the struggling Neal Maupay and Elis Simms in Calvert-Lewin’s continued absence which has come as a real source of frustration for both the club’s fans and board.

With the forward’s contract expiring in 2025, the Toffees can still recoup a huge fee for the forward this summer adding to the war chest for a huge summer rebuild that has been accumulated through the sales of Richarlison and Gordon.

The Blues have been linked with a whole host of forwards in recent months including Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres, Atalanta’s Duvan Zapata, and Udinese’s Portuguese striker Beto, forwards who will all be jumping at the chance to make an impression in Premier League.

However, the Blues will need to confirm their status in the English top-flight before entertaining any interest for new forwards.

Calvert-Lewin’s injuries are incredibly unfortunate for the player, but the Toffees will desperately need a goalscorer who is durable, consistent and hungry to perform at the top level week in and week out.

The thought of selling Calvert-Lewin would have been imaginable a few years ago, but with the club in desperate need of a huge summer rebuild job, the England star may well form a part of the mass player exodus at Goodison Park this summer.
