Farhad Moshiri in hot water again at Everton as inconsiderate decision emerges

Farhad Moshiri finds himself in hot water yet again, after a report emerged revealing that a fan was left “infuriated” with a £1,900 bill after the Everton owner pulled out of an appearance for the FT Business of Football summit.

The much-maligned majority shareholder had been due to have a one-to-one interview on the second day of the Financial Times Business of Football Summit at the Biltmore Mayfair Hotel in London on March 2.

It was reported that the Everton chief had to pull out of the interview amid potential investment talks with MSP capital negotiations understood to be at an advanced stage [iNews, 22 February].

However, according to Liverpool ECHO [25 February], Moshiri had to withdraw from the summit because of scheduling conflicts with Everton’s 4-0 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates – a game he didn’t even attend.

And Moshiri’s decision “infuriated” one Everton fan who, according to The Times [3 March], “had stumped up the £1,900 conference fee in order to be in a position to ask questions of the 67-year-old.”

The third month of 2023 has barely even gotten going and already the Everton owner has angered supporters more times than he can count.

The club’s fan forum wrote an open letter [11 January] to the under-fire Everton majority owner expressing their frustration at how the club is currently being run both on and off the pitch, and they desperately needed answers.

Moshiri then in response took a swipe at the Goodison Park faithful in a live talkSPORT interview [12 January] with Jim White, stating that most of his managerial decisions have been “driven” by supporters.

He said: “I put my money where my mouth is & that is the most an owner can do & I’ve done that. Some of the decisions we’ve taken with the fans. All the management decisions have been driven by the fans.”

It was certainly beyond belief that Moshiri could take such a damning swipe at fans who have constantly paid their hard-earned cash to line his own pockets going so far as to say that many of his managerial appointments have been driven by their needs and wants.

Now, he’s only gone and put himself under more heat, wasting one supporter’s money by deciding not to attend an interview that will have provided that fan and the rest of the Toffees fanbase with the update and transparency they desperately crave.

With the club due to embark on a huge rebuild job this summer to strengthen Dyche’s squad, maybe Moshiri should also stomp up £1900 from his own pocket and repay that fan who probably lost all of his yearly wages.

With the Toffees faithful desperate to know more about what’s going on regarding their club, it seems as if they are going to be left in the dark yet again. The saga surrounding Moshiri continues – an unnecessary distraction as the club goes in search of securing another season in the Premier League.
