Full takeover potentially on cards at Everton as MSP Sports Capital close in on investment – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley insists a potential full Everton takeover is on the cards moving forward as MSP Sports Capital close in on a minority stake at Goodison Park.

The finance expert admits if Farhad Moshiri has a plan to continue selling his part of the business, it would be natural for new investors to look into that.

Football Insider reported on 3 March that MSP Sports Capital are in advanced talks over a 20 per cent stake in the club, something that could increase further down the line.

“I think that’s a potential [outcome],” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“Any new investor would line up their longer-term on things and if it is to be 20-25 per cent and people on the board, that obviously gives them more power.

“It doesn’t equate to a majority decision given their stake, but it does give them a significant presence and obviously, if you want to look to increase that over time and the plan is for Moshiri to keep giving away more of the business then there is a natural look for further options for that consortium further down the track.

“So, it will tie up with the long-term strategy, but the short-to-immediate term, if you’re going to give away 25 per cent of the business and put people on the board, then that’s going to give them a significant say in what Everton do moving forward.

“That organisation has got a good track record in commercial matters, really good track record with managing commercial commitments and that’s an area that we know clubs are targeting for growth so it fits with what we’re seeing in the wider industry.”

Moshiri owns 94 per cent of Everton, as it stands.

It’s been widely reported that he’s seeking investors to aid the construction of the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock after the UK government sanctioned Alisher Usmanov.
