Moussa Dembele set for ‘incredible’ Premier League move, Everton and Southampton firm options

Everton have tabled a firm offer to sign Moussa Dembele on a free transfer this summer as he prepares to leave Lyon, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The former Celtic striker is set to leave at the end of his contract this summer, with Atletico Madrid also linked with a move to take the 26-year-old back to the Wanda Metropolitano after a failed loan spell in 2021.

But the player is unlikely to return after featuring for just 140 minutes during that spell, and with firm offers on the table from Everton and Southampton a Premier League move looks likely after initial interest in January.

“The incredible thing in this sense is that from both countries they point out that Everton, Southampton and Atletico Madrid are options on the table,” they wrote (8 March).

Option

Everton need an attacking option in the squad that they can rely on to score goals, and that is exactly what Dembele offers if he is to join.

Dembele scored a hugely impressive 51 goals in 94 appearances for Celtic before a mega-money move to France with Lyon, where he has scored 70 goals in 167 appearances across all competitions.

At 26 he is entering the prime of his career, and he will have a point to prove to anyone who has doubted his abilities.

He is physically imposing and would suit Sean Dyche’s style, plus is a willing runner and an excellent finisher in front of goal when given the chance.

Everton would obviously need to avoid relegation to have a chance of completing a deal, but Dembele is clearly keen on a move to England and the Toffees need a striker to lead the line. It could be a match made in heaven.
