Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe makes transfer admission on Everton striker Tom Cannon

Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe confirms that he would love to sign Everton striker Tom Cannon who is currently on loan there.

The 20-year-old moved to the Championship outfit in January and has become a first-team regular at Deepdale.

He’s scored one goal thus far but Lowe believes that he deserves a few more, given how well he’s been playing.

“I don’t read any stuff or see it, so I haven’t seen it to comment on it,” Lowe told LancsLive. “But, who wouldn’t want to take Tom Cannon? I think he’s been a breath of fresh air for us and is unlucky not to have three or four goals. It hasn’t been for the lack of trying; he scored a fantastic goal the other week [24 February].

“We have got to keep building him up to do that. He’s still learning, on a daily basis, and is still only a baby. But, he’s not our player to think about that; he is Everton’s. If there’s an opportunity or a conversation to be had, when the time is right, then we would definitely look at it. But, the fact of the matter is that it’s still early days yet.”

Another loan move?

Cannon has shown plenty of promise and has already made his senior Everton debut so he’s clearly rated highly by the hierarchy at the club.

Lowe confirms that he’s keen on signing him, but nothing about whether or not he wants to sign him temporarily or on a permanent basis.

Everton have a striking crisis and there’s a very good chance that Sean Dyche gives him a chance in pre season to show what he’s all about.

Still on 20, if Sean Dyche feels that he can play him in another attacking position, then he could very well try him out in a different role.

We do not fathom the Toffees considering a permanent sale for the 20-year-old unless the offer is too good to turn down.

It’s also not like he’s been scoring every week at Preston for them to consider paying over the top so there’s a good chance that he’s still going to be an Everton-registered player next season.
