BT Sport pundit stunned by what Dwight McNeil did in Everton win v Brentford

Dwight McNeil scored an “unbelievable” goal for Everton in their 1-0 win over Brentford at Goodison Park, stunning BT Sport pundit Rachel Brown-Finnis.

The Toffees took the lead in the opening minute of the game when McNeil smashed a strike from the edge of the box into the top corner, helping Sean Dyche claim all three points and move back out of the relegation zone.

And reacting to the game live on BT Sport Score (11 March, 15:01), Brown-Finnis was stunned by the strike and described it as “old school Burnley”, also praising Michael Keane’s return to the fold.

“Wow, what a strike from Dwight McNeil,” she said. “It was old school Burnley.

“It was Michael Keane who intercepted it at the back, played across to Dwight McNeil on the left side. Just outside of the line at the far post. He lets it run across him, has a yard free and just piledrives it past the goalkeeper and into the side netting.

“What a start for Everton.

“It’s unbelievable. Before the game I was looking at the statistics, the likelihood of Everton winning this game, and of course it’s very, very early days.

“Looking at the partnership at the back with Michael Keane, him coming out of the football wilderness almost to partner with Tarkowski, the second time we’ve seen that.”

More of that

The biggest problem for Everton this season has been a lack of goals, and the reliance on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to get those goals.

But there is enough quality in our attacking department to do far better than we have been doing in that aspect of our play, and McNeil proved it with this strike.

Everton

The players simply don’t trust themselves enough to shoot more often, but Sean Dyche has really helped that belief and got the team pulling the trigger more and that leads to more goals.

McNeil’s strike was excellent and you can see the spirit of the club returning under the new manager, and he is using players that he trusts and knows well, and Everton fans can be delighted by the way we’re performing.

It’s a huge win in the wider context of things, but just for Everton too to remember how it feels to win games is a huge step and can hopefully help us get out of trouble this season once again.
