Leeds United midfielder Weston McKennie shares details of argument with Everton ace Abdoulaye Doucoure

Leeds United midfielder Weston McKennie has shared details of an argument with Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure in February.

Speaking on the Indirect Podcast, the United States international threw light on the mind games at play during matches.

The Toffees ended up winning the game 1-0 and one moment from the game that fans will have forgotten will be the incident between the two midfielders.

McKennie said, “Doucoure, me and him were going back and forth. When the fight broke out on the side I was shoving someone, for Tyler’s sake, and he came over and wrapped his whole body around me and pulled me. I walked away and got the yellow card and I said to him ‘I don’t care if you do that, but do it when I look at you’.

“And he goes like ‘You know, when you get the ball next time, I’ll kill you.’ And I said to him that when you get the ball I’ll kill you too. I was so happy because not long after that we had a 50/50 shoulder-to-shoulder and I bodied him off the ball.”

Fight in him

Premier League games are physical and combative and it’s good to see Doucoure up for the challenge.

He was a peripheral figure under Frank Lampard, but under Sean Dyche, he’s now one of the first names on the team sheet.

The Everton midfield needs some bite in it and if the 30-year-old is providing that then we do not see any reason for fans to complain about it.

The midfield balance seems to be working as Dyche has now taken his side to 15th in the table, but of course, there’s a lot of work still to be done.

Hopefully, they can win at least four more games as that’ll put them on 37 points and that could be enough as they may sneak a few draws too.

Dyche has been in this position and out of it on numerous occasions before so we trust him to get the Toffees out of it.
