Duvan Zapata issues future plans amid Everton transfer links

Everton target Duvan Zapata admits that he needs to perform consistently if he is to stay at Atalanta beyond the end of the season.

Amid Everton links, he was recently asked about his future by Italian media outlet Gazzetta and he said that he’s unaware of the Toffees showing any interest.

Thus far, he has bagged 80 goals for the club in 180 games since his move in January 2020.

He said, “Here, even if I’ve been linked with other clubs since I came here and I knew nothing about it. I am happy here and I can feel even better if I get more consistency and if we end well this season.

“Atalanta have missed me as much as I missed Atalanta, that’s why I want to enjoy every moment until the end of the season.”

Zapata is a good striker but the main issue is his injury record and that’s why the big clubs are not willing to take a punt on him.

A goal nearly every two games is a very good record at the top level and purely on numbers, this is a signing that makes sense.

It’s true that Everton do need a striker but they’re not going to sign someone who’s in the twilight of his career.

They need someone who’ll not just strengthen their playing eleven but also be an option for the future and Zapata isn’t that.

Sean Dyche would want a particular kind of striker and the Colombian may not even fit the exact profile of forward that he wants there.

They want to sign the Portuguese striker Beto and that seems like a more realistic bet given the fact that he’s ideal for this Everton system.
