Andy Jacobs explodes live on talkSPORT after what he saw at Chelsea v Everton

TalkSPORT presenter Andy Jacobs has blasted Chelsea for their reserved approach against Everton on Saturday [18 March] at Stamford Bridge after going 2-1 up.

Young Toffees striker Ellis Simms scored his first Everton goal to earn Sean Dyche’s side a precious point as they came from behind twice to draw against the West Londoners at Stamford Bridge.

And Jacobs did not like what he saw Chelsea do after they’d gone 2-1 up through Kai Havertz’s penalty arguing that they should have killed the game.

Speaking live on talkSPORT today [20 March, 12:37 pm], he said: “I’ll tell you what I have decided, shutting up shop, forget it.

“It’s the worst thing you can do as a football manager, we’re 2-1 ahead, don’t bother, just keep playing the way you are. Go and get the goals that kill the game, this sitting back that Chelsea and Spurs do – the minute you do it, it invites teams on to you, you’re saying come and have a go at us, pointless, absolutely pointless, that was two points dropped by Potter.”

Credit must go to Dyche and his men for going for the jugular soon after Chelsea’s lead. The Toffees certainly didn’t give up hope of claiming a decisive point at Stamford Bridge, especially when many teams would have shied under the pressure.

Possibly, an Everton side under Frank Lampard would have done just that. Chelsea’ approach was indeed baffling after going ahead, with Potter making some questionable substitutions. However, Saturday’s game highlighted the significant impact Dyche is instilling in this team after what’s been a difficult season.

To bring on Simms in the dying moments was incredibly brave considering his struggles when called upon, but it paid dividends with the youngster expertly finishing his chance when it came to him.

The Toffees face another testing two games after the international break with Tottenham and Manchester United to come, if they can maintain the levels shown at Stamford Bridge, there’s no reason why they can’t claim some points against those two giants.
