Financial disaster on cards if Everton relegated after MSP Sports Capital news - Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Everton being relegated from the Premier League would be a “big disaster” after investment from MSP Sports Capital became unlikely.

The finance expert admitted that relegation would have a knock-on effect on any further investment too, but staying in the top flight would give the Toffees a platform to kick on.

Farhad Moshiri has made it no secret that he is looking for outside investment at Goodison Park, and that has quickly fallen back to square one in recent weeks.

“For me, I think it’s not necessarily everything on the line,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“The significance of the situation is again, heightened by relegation or not relegation, as a general line, relegation would be a big disaster for that football club financially and would have a knock-on effect on the investment.

“I think if you were talking about Everton as a Premier League club and we were saying they will be in that league next season, then the investment will be there, it remains an attractive proposition in the long-term to invest in Everton with the new stadium, and the growth potential in that particular aspect of the business, but that is dependent on the Premier League.

“When we talk about the investment and MSP Sports Capital falling through, and maybe it will be 777 or whoever else, it’s not necessarily that it’s absolute make or break, but it is really significant given the nature of the league table at the minute and that’ll be the tipping point either way whether it goes horribly wrong or actually they can retain Premier League status and kick on.”

As always, all eyes are on Everton in the Premier League.
