Everton could miss out on Viktor Gyokeres transfer as new interview drops with top level aspirations clear
Everton have long been linked with putting a new striker in their famous blue kit, and this summer looks almost certain to be the same once again.
A number of names have been linked with a move to Goodison Park, with Sweden and Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres among the most prominent.
The 24-year-old has hit 18 goals in the Championship this season and many believe that he is ready for a move to the top flight, and with his most recent comments it seems that he is too.

“It has gone well and felt good for myself,” he said in an interview with Aftonbladet (21 March).
“I have scored some goals and assists and we have won most of the games. It is clear that you want to play in the best leagues. But you have to take that after the season, now I just try to focus on Coventry and try to go up with them. But it is clear that you are aiming higher.
“It is clear that it would have been fun to play there, but I don’t think about it too much. I can play in some other leagues too.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems over the last two years mean that he simply can’t be relied upon any more as a regular starter, and that makes the starting position wide open with Neal Maupay struggling and Ellis Simms breaking through.

But with Gyokeres admitting that he is open to playing in other top leagues, it means that even survival won’t make us a prime candidate for his signature in the summer.
It was believed that it would cost around £25m to sign him in January, and nobody was willing to stump up the cash, but he has continued with his fine form in the second half of the campaign.
Everton know that relegation would all but completely rule them out of the running for a deal, and with Premier League safety far from guaranteed that can’t be ruled out.
If the team is able to avoid the drop, they should make their decision quickly and make their move immediately to wrap this deal up. Interest is sure to be high, and the player is ready to move so a transfer won’t be a surprise.
There is money to spend after the sales of Anthony Gordon and Moise Kean, so there should be no excuses.
