Everton consider making offer for Palmeiras Brazilian wonderkid Giovani, £13.2m price mooted

Everton are considering making an offer for Brazilian wonderkid Giovani of Palmeiras, with a £13.2m price mooted to get his signature, according to ESPN.

19-year-old Giovani has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest and Newcastle previously, with scouts sent to watch him play in Brazil’s top flight.

But now Everton are said to have joined the race for his signature, but despite his £52m release clause it would only take £13.2m to prise him to Europe.

“Everton, from England, is also keeping an eye on the athlete and, like the competitor, is considering making an offer for the striker in the middle of this year,” they wrote (23 March).

“The boy’s termination fine is 60 million euros (£52m). For Alviverde to agree to start a negotiation for the sale of the athlete, the proposal would have to be at least 15 million euros (£13.2m).”

Talent

Everton aren’t particularly well known for unearthing South American gems and bringing them to Europe to make them better, but there’s a first time for everything.

We saw how well Richarlison did at Watford and splashed £50m on signing him from Watford, so it’s possible that the club are now looking to skip that middle man and pay far less to get a player in early.

However Giovani is quite a flair player and has suffered with injury problems this year, and he doesn’t seem to be the normal type of profile that Sean Dyche would go for.

It would certainly be an interesting signing, but spending a fair chunk of the budget on a relative unknown would be a massive gamble and one that the club can’t really afford to go wrong right now.

We need players to improve our starting lineup and our squad depth, and this summer is incredibly important whether we get relegated or survive. Giovani doesn’t really tick any of those boxes.
