Everton signing Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata may see Willy Gnonto leave Leeds United
Everton and Leeds United may reportedly cross paths in the summer as a transfer dynamo appears to be forming with Duvan Zapata, Willy Gnonto and Atalanta.
According to Il Giorno [23 March], Atalanta will sign Gnonto on two conditions, one of which is the sale of Zapata, who they want to get off their books.
The Toffees are keen on signing the 31-year-old Colombian in the summer and in signing them, they could weaken Leeds, one of their Premier League rivals, should the Serie A club also qualify for the Champions League.
Not really needed?
Zapata may have scored 105 goals in his Serie A career but he certainly is not what Everton will want if they are building for the future.
It’s understood that the Colombian’s valuation has also dropped drastically over the last few months so that could tempt the Toffees into making a move.
However, that’s only happened due to his lack of goals and it makes no sense for a team looking for a talismanic striker to sign someone who’s struggling to find the back of the net.
There are certainly better strikers out there that will make the Everton first team stronger and those are names they should be looking at.
Zapata’s best days are behind him and expecting someone at 31 to adapt to the Premier League is wishful thinking.
The Toffees find themselves in a financial mess because of such risky expenses in the past and they cannot keep making the same mistakes.
