Pundit: Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford needs to calm down amid interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur

Neil Cutler believes that Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford needs to calm down during games as he’s a tad erratic and inconsistent.

Discussing the England number one’s future as he penned a long-term contract extension at the club, Cutler still thinks he could leave the club.

This comes after he was quizzed about a potential exit with clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur vying for his services.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Cutler said, “I think he needs just a little bit more consistency in his shape. You’ve just got to fine tune him a little bit.

“With his shape, he can be a little erratic when he moves around the goal but that’s my philosophy and the way I work. He’ll have a different mindset and a different thought.

“I would probably just calm him down in his shape and the way he moves around the goal. He can be a little bit erratic in the way he holds himself but that’s the way he works and the way he is. Maybe he doesn’t want to change that.”

Fine the way he is

Cutler was thinking out loud and he actually realised that Pickford’s quirks are what makes him the keeper he is.

Fans have accepted that he is prone to the odd error but over the course of the season, he wins his side far more points than he costs them.

The thing with goalkeepers is that their errors are highlighted far more than any outfielder’s and that’s a tad unfair on them.

There’s a very good chance that Pickford stays even if the Toffees get relegated as it’s understood that there’s no relegation clause in his contract.

However, a big offer from one of the aforementioned clubs could see him think twice about life in the second tier and Everton fans would not blame him for leaving.

They’ve seen how badly run the club is over the years and unless there’s a change of ownership, things are unlikely to improve.
