Andy Dunn explodes at Dele Alli ’embarrassment’ as shocking Everton business comes to light

The Mirror’s Andy Dunn has exploded at Dele Alli and brandished the Everton loanee’s spell at Besiktas as an “embarrassment”.

Besiktas boss, Senol Gunes had sensationally claimed the 26-year-old had gone AWOL, an accusation the former Tottenham midfielder refuted after he was granted leave by the Turkish side.

Despite Gunes’ remarkable outburst, Dunn has claimed Alli went AWOL a long time ago, with his career heading in a downward spiral.

“Dele went AWOL a long while ago,” said Dunn (The Mirror, pg 67, 26 March).

“Heck, Dele has more than 12 months of a two-and-a-half-year contract with Everton – reported to be worth £100,00-a-week – left to run. Even by Everton’s rock-bottom standards that was a particularly shocking piece of business.

“In many ways, his story is one that symbolises the obscenity of the largesse given to young men, who, at some stage of their life can kick a ball around to decent effect.”

Tragic

Alli’s demise has been a sad affair. He’s gone from one of Europe’s most impressive youngsters to an outcast in a second-rate league. The changing scenario at Tottenham didn’t help his cause, with the move to Goodison Park proving to be a poor decision.

The 26-year-old does need to take some of the blame. He simply has to show more desire and fight to turn his career around. When a similar situation happens at three different clubs, it’s not a coincidence. The midfielder’s next move will be vital, with a return to Merseyside certainly on the cards.

Everton

It will be intriguing to see whether Sean Dyche can get a tune out of Alli. The former Burnley boss is a motivator and his approach could potentially kick him back into gear.

We’ve seen moments from the Besiktas loanee in a Blue shirt, but he will now need to get back to his consistent best in order to resurrect a career which is teetering on the edge of oblivion.
