Everton among suitors for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram on free transfer this summer

Everton are among the clubs looking to sign France international Marcus Thuram on a free transfer this summer, according to 90min.

The Toffees are likely to look to sign a new striker in the summer after losing Richarlison and Anthony Gordon this season, and replacing them with just Neal Maupay who has struggled with just one goal.

While the chance of relegation still looming large Everton are looking at different striker options, and Thuram has emerged as one of those with his contract expiring in the summer.

“Aston Villa, Everton, Leicester and West Ham are all among Thuram’s lengthy list of suitors, with the Gladbach striker expecting plenty of offers this summer ahead of a probable exit from the Bundesliga,” they wrote (26 March).

Thuram has hit 15 goals in 30 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach this season, and has also attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and Inter Milan.

Essential

Everton are low on cash and have been for a while, so these are the sorts of signings that we need to be looking at in the market if we’re to stay in the Premier League.

A full France international, he has been described as “a world-class striker” by Marcel Schafer and it’s that level of player that is needed to add a reliable source of goals to the side with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury problems.

Everton

Thuram is a physical striker with great mobility to run in behind too, which suits the way Sean Dyche likes to play and at just 25-years-old he is in the absolute peak years of his career.

A free transfer would likely mean high wages, and Everton can’t go beyond their means, but they will feel they have a real chance of securing his signature considering they will be able to offer him a guaranteed starting spot in the best league in the world.

Relegation would obviously scupper any chance of a deal happening at all, but having been linked in January too there is obviously interest there so it can’t be totally ruled out.
