Jordan Pickford faces ‘uncertain future’ at Everton amid unusual turn of events – Danny Murphy

Jordan Pickford is facing an “uncertain future” should Everton be relegated from the Premier League this season, according to pundit Danny Murphy.

The Toffees currently sit 15th in the table, just two points off the bottom three and three points off rock bottom. They have won just six of their 28 matches.

And former England international Murphy believes the current Three Lions number one Pickford may be forced to find a new club this summer should Everton suffer the dreaded drop.

“Half the England team that beat Italy could move clubs this summer in a very hectic transfer window,” Murphy wrote in the Mail Online (25 March). “Some think Gareth Southgate should be worried about the potential disruption to his players but I actually believe it will be to his benefit at Euro 2024.

“What could be better than Harry Kane and Declan Rice challenging for big trophies, Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips playing regular first-team football and Jude Bellingham ripping up the Premier League?

“It’s unusual to have so many England stars all facing an uncertain future at the same time. You could also include goalkeeper Jordan Pickford if Everton are relegated, while Chelsea’s Mason Mount is also attracting interest.”

Inevitable exit

As Murphy mentioned, the upcoming summer transfer window looks set to be a chaotic one, particularly for many of England’s star players.

And along with a handful of other Everton men, it will be inevitable that Pickford will move on if the Toffees are relegated to the Championship this season.

And he will have no shortage of suitors, with Tottenham looking increasingly likely to be on the lookout for a new shot-stopper this summer, with the ageing Hugo Lloris currently struggling with injury.

Manchester United meanwhile have also been mentioned as a possible destination for Pickford, with a handful of other top clubs undoubtedly eyeing his signature.

The 29-year-old still has plenty of years at the very top, and has impressively kept his England number one spot despite a frustrating campaign at Everton, and indeed the superb form of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Pickford has been a fantastic servant for the Toffees over the years, and while fans would be sad to see him go, many would be grateful for the time he spent helping the club in the top flight.
