Alex Iwobi responds to Everton fans anger at players and Farhad Moshiri

Alex Iwobi has reacted to the Everton fans anger at the board and Farhad Moshiri, but wants them to understand that everyone is feeling the pain.

Fans have been furious at the position the club is in this season, with regular protests and some videos surfacing of players being confronted by angry fans.

And while appearing on The Beautiful Game podcast (27 March) Iwobi admitted that his own family don’t attend games as they’re not sure what could happen but wants the fans to understand the players are going through the same pain as them.

“The Yerry Mina thing, you have to be mindful,” he said. “You can’t just go and abuse someone’s car, especially if there is a yout (child) in the car.

“But like, the fans sometimes don’t see it. Obviously the Anthony Gordon thing, he was by himself and he wasn’t given no-one no attention. I don’t know what you’d expect us to do, like we can’t fight back.

“Everyone, including Anthony Gordon works hard for the team. You might not see it, but us players appreciate what he does for the team.

“That’s the thing about fans. They need to understand that it’s not just them going through it. We’re all going through it as a club, we’re all feeling that same pain.

“Me personally I’ve not had anything crazy. My friends nothing crazy. Even my mum and dad, they try to avoid going to the games just in case because they never know what’s going to happen.”

Everton

Not great

Obviously fans this season have been hurting this season, and while we all want the players and board to hold accountability there is a way to go about it.

Iwobi’s comments suggest that while some fans will have wanted to light a fire under the players it could have had the opposite effect and added more pressure and potentially even fear.

No player is going to want to see their families or friends targeted, especially as they will all feel as though they’re giving their all to the club.

While we all want the best for Everton, the fact is that they are humans first and foremost and we have to be respectful of that. We want these players to enjoy themselves and want to be here.

Iwobi has been one of the best performers for the club in recent times and he deserves to be treated with respect too, so hopefully the fans will listen to what he has to say and take action.
