Everton sources speak out as latest accounts revealed

Everton sources have argued that the club have been further negatively impacted due to the effect on player trading because of COVID-19, according to the Independent.

The newspaper has reported on its website that the effect of the pandemic has been calculated at £90.4million to the Toffees, who continue to struggle financially.

One positive is that cost-cutting has led to a smaller loss in their latest accounts, with six other Premier League clubs posting higher losses from 2021-22.

COVID-19 has been at the heart of the defence from Everton over their financial losses.

As we have all heard they can be offset against the accounts, but the Toffees have used that much more than any other Premier League and has been somewhat contested by others.

Leeds and Burnley kickstarted the microscope with their complaints last season, with the latest referral potentially leading to a real charge.

Twists.

One thing that cannot be argued is that the Premier League have known about this.

After last year’s financial accounts, Everton worked closely with them to make sure they progressed rather than sinking into further bother, something that has been positive based on the latest reveal.

Losses are lower with six other clubs in the Premier League positing higher numbers, which is hopefully something that continues as the years go on.

Of course, the pandemic did not help anyone, but it looks as though Everton have been hit the hardest with transfers and player trading also taking a hit.

Whether that will be used to defend the club in front of the independent panel, nobody knows, but it is certainly something to take into account moving forward.

Everyone is itching to know the outcome of this saga, but these latest accounts make some sort of positive reading, at least for Everton fans it does.
