Jeff Stelling rages at Everton incident in 1-1 Premier League draw v Tottenham

Jeff Stelling was left fuming at Abdoulaye Doucouré after the Everton midfielder was sent off during the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

The 30-year-old was given his marching orders midway through the second half after striking Harry Kane in the face after a small tussle near the dugouts.

However, the incident didn’t prove too costly for Sean Dyche’s side as a late Michael Keane strike cancelled out a penalty from the England captain to see the spoils shared at Goodison Park (3 April).

Stelling was less than impressed with Doucoure and took to Twitter during the game to vent his frustration.

“Finally something happened in this game,” wrote Stelling (personal Twitter account, 3 April)

“What was Doucoure thinking about? Surprised though Harry Kane has recovered so quickly. Been a shocker of a game!”

Big result

Everton rescuing a point when behind and down to ten men could well be a turning point. Under the previous management, they would’ve come away from the fixture on Monday evening with nothing to show. The sign of a good to is to pick up points from difficult scenarios and that’s exactly what Dyche’s side did.

Four points from Chelsea and Spurs is an excellent return and Everton will head to Manchester United on Saturday confident of picking up a result. Erik ten Hag’s side are not performing to their best at present and will be desperate to put a run of winning form together heading into the business end of the season.

Everton

Doucoure will be extremely disappointed with the incident on Monday evening. The 30-year-old has been impressive under the former Burnley boss and there was even talk of a new contract potentially on the table.

With a three-game ban now in the offing, it would not be a surprise to see the club hold fire when it comes former Watford man’s future.
