Everton locked in Premier League battle to sign Danish goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, summer exit mooted

Everton are locked in a Premier League battle to sign Brøndby goalkeeper Mads Hermansen as he looks likely to move in the summer, according to Danish outlet Bold.

The Toffees were linked with the Danish Under-21 goalkeeping sensation during the January window, according to a report from Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet (13 January, page 7) which also revealed that the 22-year-old was also attracting interest from clubs around Europe.

Premier League clubs Fulham and Bournemouth were also keen and Bold [5 April] have now revealed that both Burnley and Everton have joined the race, as the Scandinavian shot-stopper hasn’t ruled out a move away this summer.

Everton

“Bold.dk can now say that Burnley joins a Premier League trio of particularly interested clubs – namely Fulham, Everton and Bournemouth.

“The four English clubs are the hottest suitors from England, and the interest from Bournemouth, in particular, has been persistent for a long time”, as quoted by the report.

Ex-Everton and Denmark star Thomas Gravesen is a big fan of Hermansen [Daily Mail], saying he is “a goalkeeper who plays like [Brazil internationals] Ederson and Alisson who comes out of his goal and be an outfield player with his team.”

Pickford No.2?

Having secured the future [Daily Mail, 24 February] of Jordan Pickford, it seems as if the Toffees are planning ahead in the eventuality that their star goalkeeper could leave Goodison Park very soon, and that could well happen if they don’t secure their English top-flight status for next season.

However, the Toffees do need an able-bodied No.2 in the future and Hermansen certainly seems a decent and exciting pick. Despite his relative inexperience, he is highly regarded for both club and country, having been picked for the Danish squad in their recent Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Everton

Regardless of what happens with Pickford, Everton certainly need to be proactive, something that has seemed far from them for a long while, hence the mess the club finds itself in, both financially and in terms of the current squad.

And there may be no better place to kick things off ahead of a huge summer rebuild by locating an understudy for the England international. However, they reportedly face a battle with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley who will become a Premier League outfit given their dominant exploits in the Championship so far this season.

Premier League safety is pivotal for Everton, or else they won’t be able to afford and attract some of the most promising names in the business. It would hurt to see them fall behind once again in their recruitment.
