Everton offered Davide Ancelotti manager job at Goodison Park after Frank Lampard sacking

Davide Ancelotti was offered the chance to take the reins as Everton manager after the sacking of Frank Lampard in January, according to Marca.

The Real Madrid assistant manager and son of former Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti has already worked at several of Europe’s elite, including PSG, Bayern Munich and Napoli, despite being just 33 years old.

The report (4 April) shared that following the sacking of Lampard at Goodison Park, Ancelotti had the option to take the vacant managerial position, but that the “operation did not materialize”.

The Italian, who was in the dugout for Real Madrid’s 2022 Champions League success, is now set to take his managerial career alone and has become the main candidate to take the job with Swiss outfit Basel.

Interesting

Despite Everton going from strength to strength following the arrival of Sean Dyche as manager, the option to take Ancelotti would have been an interesting one.

The Italian had previous experience working at Goodison Park under Carlo and has since built quite some CV from his early days in coaching.

It is yet to be seen whether Ancelotti has what it takes to become a successful manager by himself, and it would have been a huge leap of faith by the Merseyside club to hand him the reins in January.

With no individual managerial experience, the spotlight may have been a little too much for the 33-year-old to deal with.

Right now, Everton need a cool, calm and composed head in the heat of a relegation battle, and Dyche seems to have been the perfect appointment.

Being parachuted into the heat of battle at Goodison Park in January just doesn’t seem like it would have worked, and thankfully the club moved along a separate route.
