Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin faces tricky return amid hamstring setback – Injury Expert

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin faces a trickier return to full fitness than Nathan Patterson, claims Dr Rajpal Brar.

The Toffees duo were both doubts for the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on 3 April, and both of them missed the game.

Patterson featured for Scotland over the international break but did not make the matchday squad v Spurs and Calvert-Lewin also missed out.

Sean Dyche will be counting on both the first-team players to be back and available for selection, and the injury expert thinks it’s going to take longer for the England striker.

Speaking exclusively with Goodison News about Calvert-Lewin’s condition, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said, “I’d imagine both would get more bounce matches to build fitness, particularly Calvert-Lewin who is coming off a hamstring injury which can be tricky to deal with and his lack of games over the last few months.

“Patterson might be closer to a full return than DCL at this point due to the nature of the injury as it’s an MCL vs a hamstring.”

Calvert-Lewin was back on the grass at the end of March but did not begin training with the group yet so appears to be some way away from returning to full fitness.

He’s played in just 11 league games this season with his last appearance coming in the 1-0 win over Arsenal in February which was Dyche’s first match in charge of Everton.

His goal tally has also been abysmal this term, finding the back of the net just once which has seen the Toffees become one of the worst teams in front of goal in the Premier League.
