Premier League need to act quickly if they deduct Everton points – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...
Dan Plumley has insisted that if the Premier League plan on deducting points from Everton, they must do it quickly as the relegation battle continues.
The finance expert shared that with legal warnings on the table and other clubs demanding answers from the Premier League, all possible penalties remain on the table.
Everton currently sit 16th, out of the bottom three on goal difference alone, so a points deduction could be catastrophic after their referral over Profit and Sustainability regulations.

“All possible penalties are on the table,” he exclusively told Goodison News.
“That is what the Premier League can enforce, it is up to them to enforce that and that is their call. The pressure is real and it is there for all parties, but go back a season and it probably should have happened last season and it probably should happen again if the Premier League are applying those regulations.
“It goes back to real-time reporting of the regulations and making sure if you’re going to act with a penalty deduction, you do that as quickly as possible to cut off some of these challenges we are now seeing from potential legal battles and the six clubs that have sent letters wanting the Premier League to act on this.
“It creates a bigger problem as you’re bringing other clubs into the mix and relegation is a £60million loss, at least, so it’s a significant figure for whichever club is relegated and that is the kind of numbers you’re dealing with.

“The backdrop is always fascinating as you look at last season, Burnley and Leeds wanted a legal fight, one stays up, one goes down and suddenly, Leeds don’t care so you are in that position as well.
“It’s important, the timing, it is in the Premier League’s remit to points deduct but it is when that penalty is applied that will upset the clubs – that is the problem.”
With only nine games left to play and everything on the line for so many clubs, the Premier League is going to upset someone, let’s hope that isn’t Everton.
