BT Sport pundit Joleon Lescott predicts result of Everton Premier League clash v Manchester United

Joleon Lescott has predicted Everton to give Manchester United a “tough afternoon” in their Premier League clash on Saturday (8 April).

But the former Toffees defender has backed the Red Devils to edge out the Toffees 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The hosts currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, with the visitors going into the game in 16th place, kept out of the relegation zone by goal difference only.

“Sean Dyche is getting a tune out of Everton now and I’m sure the fans will be enjoying how difficult they’ve become to beat,” Lescott predicted for LiveScore.

“They should give United a tough afternoon but I think the home side’s class may just tell in the end.

“Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Everton.”

Tricky test

Dyche will be fully aware of what to expect this weekend, with Erik ten Hag’s men currently seeking to really establish a firm position in the top four of the table.

They haven’t been at their best in recent weeks, firstly losing to Newcastle before edging past Brentford 1-0 on Wednesday (5 April).

But even when not in full form, Man United are a very dangerous side, with attacker Marcus Rashford capable of winning games on his own, as proven once again against the Bees.

The Toffees are, however, going strong themselves, currently enjoying a four-game unbeaten run that has also involved a 1-0 victory over Brentford.

Also in the run are draws against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Tottenham, with the stalemates against the two London clubs particularly impressive.

Everton will need to stay tight at the back if they want to take anything from Old Trafford, where the atmosphere will no doubt be noisy and formidable as the hosts aim to push away from Newcastle and creep closer to Manchester City at the same time.
