Everton contract news as Seamus Coleman could leave club in summer

There are no guarantees of the “Highly influential” Seamus Coleman signing a contract extension at Everton this summer, according to The Mirror.

The Goodison Park veteran has emerged as a key performer under Sean Dyche since the former Burnley manager’s appointment in January, after losing his place to Nathan Patterson earlier on in the campaign under Frank Lampard.

Coleman is out of contract on Merseyside this summer, and according to The Mirror [8 April, page 65], there are no guarantees that the 34-year-old will extend his 14-year stay at Everton.

Superb servant

The shift Coleman continues to put into this Everton side is phenomenal and he always seems to be right back at it just as fans are writing him off.

A class act both on and off the pitch and a terrific role model for the younger players at Goodison Park for much of his career, Everton will sorely miss him if he were to eventually leave the club this summer.

With Dyche preferring to stick with his more experienced stars in their chase for Premier League survival, the 34-year-old right-back has excelled tremendously but it is clear that Patterson is the future of the Toffees.

Even if Coleman was to extend for next season, he certainly won’t be guaranteed a starting spot with Everton set to undergo a major rebuild this summer if they are to secure their top-flight status, and also move past their worrying financial position.

Better yet, will Coleman still remain a Goodison Park servant when they eventually move into their new stadium after next season? At 34 years old, Coleman isn’t getting any younger and the club will need to make a decision on his future this summer, along with many others in the squad currently without long-term deals.
