Everton and Aston Villa make transfer enquiry to sign Reims midfielder Dion Lopy

Everton and Aston Villa have reportedly checked on the availability of Reims midfielder Dion Lopy in the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail [10 April], the Premier League duo are keen on bringing the Senegal international, 21, to their clubs in the coming months.

Lopy, who has been dubbed as a midfield “Powerhouse”, has been a regular for Reims this season, featuring in 23 games for the French side.

Needed?

Everton signed plenty of midfielders in the summer so that’s not a position they really need to strengthen in.

With Alex Iwobi also playing most of the campaign centrally and thriving in that role, they’ve got an added option and do not need to make more signings there.

It’s pretty evident that there are problems up front as they’ve not got a quality striker who can find the back of the net regularly.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s perennially unavailable and even when fit, he’s done very little to justify why he’s the best option for Everton and they can very well find an upgrade on him.

If they’re getting Lopy for a cut-price fee, then it makes sense to consider his services but he’s likelier to move to Villa Park.

Everton are in a transfer battle with Leeds United to sign Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres and that’s a move that makes a lot more sense than this one.
