Everton stance on Conor Coady long-term future shared by Liverpool Echo

Everton are yet to make a decision on the long-term future of defender Conor Coady beyond this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Coady joined the club on a season-long loan last summer from Wolves and was one of the first names on the team sheet under Frank Lampard, but has lost his place to Michael Keane since Sean Dyche’s arrival.

With the Toffees having an option to make his move permanent this summer there has been speculation about whether they will trigger it now that he isn’t first-choice, but a new report (10 April) claims they are yet to decide what they will do.

Smart

There is no need to rush any deal and while fans would be delighted to see him stay, circumstances have now changed.

When he was a regular starter then it would have been a no-brainer to trigger that option, with a price already agreed and his place in the side all but guaranteed.

But now that he isn’t playing so often, there are more questions to be asked. Does he want to stay? Can he get back into the team? Does Dyche want him there?

Add to that the fact our Premier League status is far from secure, and it could simply be a financial decision come the summer because his wages are likely to be quite high considering his status at Wolves before they allowed him to leave.

The price is already agreed and it’s just a question of whether or not Everton want to go ahead, so there’s no need to make a decision before we actually need to.
