Everton starlet Isaac Price attracts interest from Old Firm duo Rangers and Celtic – Liverpool Echo

Everton starlet Isaac Price looks set to leave Goodison Park this summer on a free transfer, with Celtic among the clubs interested according to the Liverpool Echo.

Price earned the praise of former manager Frank Lampard following an appearance against the Scottish giants in a friendly back in November, but hasn’t featured for the first-team again since the resumption of the season following the World Cup.

With his current contract set to expire in the summer, the player has now decided to leave for regular first-team football elsewhere and is closing in on a move to Belgian outfit Standard Liege.

Both Old Firm clubs Rangers and Celtic were also interested in the player, however he is set to pen a four-year-deal with the European outfit who will pay around £400k in compensation to the Toffees.

Blow

Price has got so much talent and is exactly the type of player who deserves to step up from the academy into the first-team, especially considering the situation we’re currently in.

The 19-year-old is already a full international with Northern Ireland and the quality of the clubs looking to sign him show just how much quality he has.

But with plenty of midfield options ahead of him right now, and Sean Dyche preferring physical midfielders, his future looks bleak and he has instead chosen to go elsewhere.

It’s a massive blow for Everton, who have worked hard with the academy to nurture and develop talent such as Price in order to boost the first-team, but a lack of opportunities has seen the better talents leave.

Celtic and Rangers have got a lot of quality in midfield and his minutes likely would have been just as blocked there too, so the move to Belgium does seem to be the best for him and we can only wish him the best for the future.
