Journalist shares what Everton fans did at FT in 3-1 defeat v Fulham, notable lack of toxicity
Telegraph journalist Chris Bascombe has pointed out there was a notable lack of toxicity amongst the Everton fans after their 3-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday [15 April].
Goals from Harrison Reed, Harry Wilson and Dan James in between Dwight McNeil’s strike leaves Everton still in 17th, just above the drop zone only on goal difference with relegation rivals Nottingham Forest still to play Manchester United on Sunday [16 April].
And according to Bascombe writing in the Telegraph [15 April], the Toffees faithful sounded defeated at the final whistle on Saturday.

He said: “Despite a few scattering of jeers when referee Anthony Taylor called time on Fulham’s 3-1 win, there was a notable lack of toxicity.
“For the first time in their successive relegation scraps, even the Everton fans sounded defeated.”
Not surprising
It’s not surprising that there was a lack of toxicity among the supporters at the final whistle after the game as the Everton faithful have certainly seen this all before.
Such a performance as Saturday has become the norm, especially when the players are expected to perform and show up.

It was a dreadful performance against Fulham, a side missing a few of their best players and putting out a few players who have barely played all season. The Blues were worryingly outthought and outclassed, something that has largely become uncharacteristic since Dyche’s arrival.
Goodison Park is where the Toffees are expected to pick up most of their points in their crucial run-in so to lose as they did is a crushing blow to their survival hopes, especially seeing as they simply cannot pick up points at home.
The club’s chances of survival look even bleaker than last term, and that’s probably why the Everton fans looked so defeated at the final whistle against Fulham.
