Pat Nevin slams Everton defender Nathan Patterson v Fulham, Cottagers ‘destroying’ Toffees youngster

BBC Sport pundit Pat Nevin has slammed Everton defender Nathan Patterson for not getting “up to the pace of the game” against Fulham on Saturday (15 April).

The Toffees welcomed the Cottagers to Goodison Park in a huge Premier League clash for the former, but the game ended in a 3-1 win for Fulham.

Patterson replaced Ben Godfrey in the 58th minute against Marco Silva’s side when the home side were losing 2-1, and he was destroyed by Willian.

“Willian is destroying Everton down the left,” Nevin said on BBC Radio 5 Live, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“Patterson has not got up to the pace of the game and he senses that. He is bordering on unstoppable at the moment.”

Desperate times

Everton were in desperate need of points going into the encounter against Fulham, with the Toffees in real danger of dropping down to the Championship.

The relegation battle is extremely fierce, with several clubs fearing for their safety as the season draws to a nail-biting close.

Sean Dyche will be very disappointed with the performance of his players against Fulham, with such slip-ups not needed at this stage of the season.

Everton will certainly be focusing on their own results, but they look like they will need a favour here or there from other clubs in the league.

The Toffees have every tough tests against the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle and Brighton still to come, meaning the match against a very out-of-form Fulham side would have been one Dyche really needed to take some points from.

Everton also meet Crystal Palace and Leicester soon, with those games perhaps more appropriate for the Toffees to target as matches they can be successful in.
