Sean Dyche criticises Ben Godfrey as Everton concede ‘really soft goal’ in 3-1 loss v Fulham
Sean Dyche has criticised Everton defender Ben Godfrey for his role in Fulham’s second goal against the Toffees on Saturday (15 April).
The Cottagers picked up all three points at Goodison Park with a 3-1 victory in their Premier League clash, leaving the home side in relegation danger.
And Everton defender Godfrey has now come under fire from his manager for failing to prevent Harry Wilson’s goal early in the second half.

“It’s a poor goal from us, it’s a deep cross, a bit of a misread from Ben and it drops down in the box when we haven’t got across and they have,” said Dyche, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“It’s a really soft goal to concede anyway but then after that the effectiveness drained, we weren’t on top of the game physically and they looked sharper than us.
“We should react to that a lot better. These are important times so we’ve got to correct that quickly.”

Disastrous afternoon
Everton would have been in high spirits going into the match at Goodison Park given the fact their opponents had lost their last five matches in all competitions.
But it was the visitors who shone on the day, blowing the home side away with their attacking threat.
Amid a hamstring strain to club captain and regular right-back Seamus Coleman, Godfrey was handed a starting role on the right side of Dyche’s back four.
A centre-back by trade, Godfrey has been playing at left-back under Dyche in recent times, showing his versatility at the back.
But he will be disappointed with his efforts in the buildup to Wilson’s goal, with Dyche’s frustration with Godfrey perhaps becoming clear when the manager substituted the defender just seven minutes later.
It was a disastrous afternoon for the Toffees, who now sit 17th in the Premier League table, with only goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone.
