Bramley-Moore Dock delay is another worry for Everton to deal with – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Dan Plumley has insisted a potential delay of the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium could be another worry for Everton added to their long list already.

It comes after construction experts told the Daily Mail that the new stadium looks to be delayed by at least three months as things stand.

The finance expert admitted that is not unusual in big projects such as this, but the news is part of the bigger financial picture currently at Goodison Park.

Everton are planning to move from Goodison Park to their new stadium by 2025.

“The external factors in the wider world play a big part,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“It’s never unusual to see big capital investment infrastructure not stick to timings, we’ve seen similar with Olympic and football stadiums. Everything gets delayed and never sticks to plan so it’s not unusual in that regard and obviously costs tend to rise as things crop up in projects that you don’t plan for.

“Again, it just goes back to another issue given everything else that is going on, they want that stadium to be operational as soon as possible and some of the challenges they’ve had with the investment behind.

“Not unusual, but it’s part of the bigger picture of what’s going on with the financial picture of the club at the minute. It’s another thing to worry about and keeps that pressure on.

With Farhad Moshiri making it no secret that he wants more investment for both the club and the new stadium, this is just another worry to add to a long list.

The sooner more positive news emerges, the better, starting with the added investment of either 777 Partners or MSP Sports Capital who are both still in the race.
