Chris Sutton shares Everton Premier League relegation prediction as Toffees begin to ‘lose it a bit’

Everton are in “real trouble” of being relegated from the Premier League this season, according to pundit Chris Sutton.

The former Chelsea and Blackburn striker believes the Toffees are “starting to lose it a bit” as the season draws to a nervous finale.

Sean Dyche’s side occupy 17th position in the Premier League table, with only goal difference keeping them out of the bottom three.

“I think West Ham downwards are in real trouble,” Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live, as quoted by BBC Sport. “I think Everton have a really tough run-in and are starting to lose it a bit.

“I look at Leicester and I think they have generous fixtures, but they can’t keep a clean sheet. Southampton are down already whereas Leeds are in freefall.

“Nottingham Forest don’t score away, they have to start picking up points and they have a tricky fixture list.”

Nervous times

Everton had been enjoying somewhat of a recovery in their form and confidence in Sean Dyche’s early stages, particularly given the fact the Toffees defeated Arsenal in his very first match in charge.

But that was back at the beginning of February, and things have started to go wrong again in recent times, with the Toffees now without a win in their last four matches.

Granted, the first two games were very impressive draws against Chelsea and Tottenham, but the second two matches involved losses against Manchester United and Fulham.

The defeat to the Red Devils was perhaps expected, but a 3-1 home loss to the Cottagers on Saturday (15 April) simply isn’t acceptable for Dyche’s men if they expect to avoid the drop.

It was a desperate display in front of the club’s disappointed home fans, with a tricky test against Crystal Palace up next in Everton’s very difficult battle to stay up.

Fortunately other clubs around the Toffees are also struggling, but the Merseyside outfit need to start picking up points in order not to rely on other results in these tense times.
