Crazy developments as banks react to Everton accounts – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...
Dan Plumley has insisted that it is “absolutely crazy” that banks are comfortable with the latest accounts at Everton despite the consecutive losses.
The Daily Mail reported on March 27 that banking duo MUFG and JP Morgan Chase had conducted extensive due diligence on the finances of the Toffees alongside MSP Sports Capital.
Finance expert, Plumley, admitted that growth potential is there in the years to come for Everton, but Premier League survival is critical to that this season.

“I think it just underlines the crazy nature of football finance that we’re talking about people being comfortable with an organisation which is making losses year on year, and big losses,” he exclusively told Goodison News.
“That is the nature of football and it is absolutely crazy. Again, to spin that in a more positive light moving forward for the club, it does show the potential if you can get back on the right track in the future and the potential for growth in the market.
“We know there is growth with the new stadium, all of that growth is realised if they’re a Premier League club. The long-term potential remains, but let’s be clear, it is the long term, this is going to take up to five years to turn this around properly to then allow yourself to go forward.
“It becomes about Premier League survival and that is critical to dictate the financial performance to get them back to a position where they can go.”

Statements like this only put more pressure on Sean Dyche and his squad at Goodison Park, who are playing for a lot more than just their own futures it seems.
Everton have run up some real significant losses over the past five years, and although MUFG and JP Morgan Chase are comfortable now, that is probably with the prospect of imminent investment.
All eyes, as usual, are on Goodison Park right now.
